Chris Brown wants to perform a duet with Rihanna at the 2013 Grammys, exactly four years after famously assaulting her.

A source familiar with the situation revealed that Brown wants to join his girlfriend to show their fans that they are officially "back together" despite the harsh criticism he has received for his reconciliation with the Bajan beauty.

"Chris wants to perform with Rihanna at the Grammys to show the whole world they are back together," a source told Radar Online. "Chris doesn't care what the haters say, and wants to give the viewers an over the top performance with Rihanna."

Brown thinks that the joint performance is a great way to show the world that he is a "changed man," and "he wants the fans to know this is the real deal," the source said.

Brown believes that "if Rihanna can forgive him, the rest of the world should move on from what happened four years ago," but the Grammys has yet to confirm if the couple will perform together. The source also shared that Grammy producers are aware of the backlash they could receive for allowing the duet and consider it an "extremely delicate situation."

Producers of the Grammys "haven't signed off on having Chris and Rihanna perform together," the source added. "There is concern about the backlash the performance could receive. But it could also be ratings gold."

Brown and Rihanna recorded a Whitney Houston/Bobby Brown-inspired duet, "Nobody's Business," for her latest album "Unapologetic." Rihanna is confirmed to attend the Grammys where she is nominated for three awards, including Best Pop Solo.

Last year, Brown was criticized on Twitter after he performed and later won Best R&B Album at the 2012 Grammys. Miranda Lambert reportedly expressed her disapproval of Brown shortly after his win.

"And Chris Brown Twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl...Not cool that we act like that didn't happen," the country singer wrote on the social media site.

Singer Michelle Branch reportedly wrote at the time, "Trying not to go off on a rant but...Chris Brown...*bites tongue* have we forgiven him?"

Lamnbert blasted him again recently in an interview with Redbook magazine. The 29-year-old said that being the "loudmouth" that she is, she had to "say something."

"I didn't feel right about not saying something," Lambert told Redbook. "I say what I think. I wanted everyone to know that I don't agree with the message it's sending to young women. It's not okay. At all. To be celebrated after doing something like that. I don't think it's right, I never will, and I will stand by what I said till the day that I die."

The 2013 Grammys will take place in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on Feb. 10.
