A brawl at a baby shower has stunned officials after Massachusetts police were called to break up a mass fight among nearly 200 people who had gathered for the baby shower event.

Police attended the extraordinary scene and ended up arresting four people, including one teenager, at the shower, which was taking place at a club.

"The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. There's just no other way to put it," Officer Robert Devine told The Daily Mail. "The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles."

The mass brawl involved so many people and was so out of control that local cops were forced to request back-up from three other police departments, as well as state police and the Sheriff’s Office, according to WHDH News.

The event had started normally and was quaint, just like any other baby shower party. However, things quickly turned ugly when a fight at the bar led to complete chaos. The fighting spread as more and more people got involved and spilled out into the reception hall where the baby shower was being held.

Police officers reported that cops early on the scene were surrounded by a large group of partygoers, who threw bottles and chairs at them.

Twenty-four year old Patrick Cardoso Lopes was hit with a Taser, which was "the less lethal option," Devine said. "The officers exercised extreme restraint. They had every right in the world to be in fear for their safety. It was a chaotic scene. It was probably one of the more dangerous ones they've been in."

Paulo Pires Depina, 24, Aderito Lopes Deandrade, 22, and a 14-year-old boy were also arrested for disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer.

The four arrested men will be arraigned in Stoughton District Court.

"They're here for the protection of the guests, and they turn the tables on the officer and the other officers that came down 'cause of what was going on. It's sad," Joao Vasconcelos, a member of Club Luis de Camoes, told WHDH.

"It's never our intention to have anything like this happen but things do happen," Vasconcelos added.
