According to reports, Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny have signed on for the new Lizzie Borden movie, which is set to be directed by Pieter Van Hees.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Sevigny will be playing the protagonist Lizzie Borden -- the prime accused in the infamous Borden ax murders in 1892. Stewart will be portraying the part of the Bordens' live-in maid, Bridget Sullivan. The maid and Lizzie were in the house when the murders took place, and Sullivan was one of the key witnesses in the trial.

With Stewart now attached to the project it might get some extra mileage. The Lizzie Borden case has been explored in various films and television shows in the past.

Most recently it was a limited American TV series, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, -- which aired April through May in 2015 -- which was a follow-up to Lifetime's Lizzie Borden Took an Ax. Christina Ricci played the part of Lizzie in the Chronicles and the movie, and Clea DuVall played her older sister Emma. The movie was directed by Nick Gomez.

Bryce Kass is set to write the script and Naomi Despres will be producing the film.

Stewart is currently filming Personal Shopper -- which sees her reprise her collaboration with the Clouds of Sils Maria director Olivier Assayas.

Stewart's latest release was Equals in which she co-stars with Nicholas Hoult.
