NCIS has been on the air since 2003 and Pauley Perrette has been starring on it as forensic specialist Abby Sciuto since then.

Perrette actually first appeared in the role of Abby on JAG prior to NCIS premiering.

The actress' role on the JAG spin-off series throughout the years has proven that women can work in jobs involving math and science just as much as men can. Perrette through Abby has inspired many young females to go after these kinds of jobs instead of being discouraged because of their gender.

The actress spoke about this in the video below that the NCIS YouTube channel uploaded, in which she called the situation "The Abby Effect" since it is a phrase that was coined as a result of how young females have responded to Abby.

"'The Abby Effect' is a term that was coined awhile ago because of the influence of the character that I play has had on young girls around the world," Perrette explained, adding, "Basically it's been really inspiring for young girls to go into math and science."

The NCIS star then spoke of the past with how females were never thought of as working in these kinds of jobs, but her character has given a positive outlook on their futures in careers focusing on math and science.

"Young girls started watching the show when they were very young and now in real life are pursuing careers in math and science because the inspiration of Abby," Perrette dished.

Perrette is incredibly proud that her character has influenced this movement.
