Justin Bieber has $9 Million Lawsuit Dropped Against Him by Concertgoer Stacey Betts
What do you do as a parent when your teenage daughter begs you to take her to a concert featuring her favorite music artist?
You go, but not with the hopes of having your eardrums blown out.
This is the accusation a Portland, Oregon mom named Stacey Betts made against teen idol Justin Bieber, his record label and the show promoters of a Rose Quarter concert held July 14, 2010.
It’s been well over two years since the deafening experience and Betts has decided to have the $9.23 million dollar lawsuit dismissed.
The mom accused Bieber of being a ringleader of screams, inciting unsafe levels of noise from the mainly teenage audience which caused her permanent hearing loss.
The alleged blast of noise caused Betts to develop several ear injuries which included hearing loss, severe tinnitus or ringing in the ears, and hyperacusis or sensitivity to sound in both ears.
Bieber’s hanging in the gondola over the audience, “enticed the crowd into a frenzy of screams by continuously waving his arms in a quick and upward motion, whereas I was struck with a sound blast,” Betts explained.
After being unsuccessful in finding a lawyer to take on her case, Betts decided she could not move forward with the lawsuit.
It seems like the “Never Say Never” star is almost a magnet for lawsuits. The singer’s former bodyguard, Moshe Benabou recently filed a lawsuit against him seeking more than $420,000 in overtime and other wages. The guard accused Bieber of repeatedly punching him in the chest during an October confrontation about how to handle a member of the singer’s entourage. After the incident, Bieber fired Benabou.
"For nearly two years Mr. Benabou devoted himself completely to ensuring Mr. Bieber's personal safety," Benabou's attorney wrote in a statement. "Mr. Benabou deserved, as does any employee, to be treated with respect, dignity and in accordance with the law. Unfortunately, he was not."
For now, Justin Bieber is off the hook and his fans live to scream another day.
