There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the return of Jordana Brewster in Fast and Furious 8.

The Wire's Idris Elba To Join Fast and Furious 8?

Recently, it was revealed that there is no possibility of Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Connor, returning in any shape or form -- CGI and body doubles -- in the Furious 7 sequel. This would have a strong bearing on the chances of Brewster coming back as Mia Toretto.

In a recent interview with Variety, NBC Universal Vice-Chairman, Ron Meyer put to rest rumors about the possibility of Brian O'Connor being brought back with the help of CGI and body doubles in Fast and Furious 8.

Fast and Furious 8 To Be Inspired By Paul Walker's Vision For Series?

"Paul won't be in it, but he'll be represented in some form or another but whether his image is in it, I can't tell you yet, but he won't be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time," said Meyer. "It will still be 'Fast and Furious,' it will just be without Paul."

While most of the pivotal characters of the Fast and Furious series like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, and Dwayne Johnson have confirmed their return, there has been no official word about Brewster's return. Most have simply assumed that she will be not be coming back as her character arc was concluded with Brian O'Connor's.

O'Connor's decision to leave the dangerous world of fast cars so as to be able to raise his family with Mia, who was expecting their second child, was shown toward the end of Furious 7. This was a way to give Walker a happy send-off, but Mia was also written into it. It does seem unlikely that she would return in a pivotal role, except for a chance appearance here and there. But Brewster is not writing off her return just yet, as she hinted to the possibility of her coming back in an interview with Huffington Post Live.

"I don't know [if I'd do another film], but it's always dependent on the fans," she said. "If they want one and if there's an appetite for it. We never want to jump the shark!"

So it seems like if fans make enough noise the writers might go the extra mile to figure a way to write Mia's character back into the movie. Also, it would be very weird for Dominic (Diesel) to simply not see his sister after, so we reckon even though Mia might not be part of the crew she'll likely pop by in Fast and Furious 8.

Fast and Furious 8 will be released on April 15, 2017.
