Female elephants spend their entire lives in tight-knit matrilineal family groups. The older matriarchs tend to be more effective decision-makers. A new calf is usually the center of attention for herd members. Adults and most of the other young will gather around the newborn, touching and caressing it with their trunks. After its first month, it is still dependent on its mother and keeps close to her.

This is a video footage captured in the Safaris where a baby elephant got stuck in a water hole. The mother struggled to fetch her baby out of the slippery hole on her own as the rest of the herd had already left. After many unsuccessful tries of saving her calf, one of the older females of the herd and her offspring, fortunately, came hurrying back to help the poor thing.

This touching video shows that nothing is more beautiful than a loving mother.
