Tech titan LG is slated to release the follow up to its 2015 G series smartphone next year, adding to the list of new smartphones coming out in 2016. According to Tech Grapple, a new leak put some of the LG G5 smartphone's specs on blast in the wild. The purported tipster chose Chinese micro-blogging site, Weibo as a platform to post vital information about the device, masked by the username "Zealer".

Contradicting rumors of a May 2016 arrival, recent information suggests that the LG G5 is likely to launch in February 2016 at Mobile World Congress (MWC). Whispers of a metal body like the LG Zero and biometrics surround the G5 both a fingerprint scanner and an iris retina scanner are expected to be integrated features on the upcoming smartphone. There are no specifics about the exact purpose of the iris scanner--speculation points towards the eye sensor serving as another secure method of unlocking the phone. Should we believe the rumor mill, the iris scanner will be located on the front of the LG G5, while the fingerprint scanner will be embedded on the back.

The informant on Weibo reveals some beefy LG G5 specs including a 5.6-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Powering the phone will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an Adreno 530 GPU to manage the demands of daily computing and intense graphics of modern gaming apps. Users will be able to capture high quality images in an instant with a 5MP front selfie camera and a 1/2" sensor 21MP primary shooter on the rear. The LG G5 will probably arrive factory fresh to mobile market running Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. Sporting specs like these, the LG G5 will surely bump heads with the Samsung Galaxy S7, also rumored for a February 2016 launch with the identical chipset. While the price of the LG G5 remains a mystery, more information should arise as we move closer to the tentative release date.
