Vegas Theater Shooting In Parking Lot Leaves Two In Critical Condition, Still No Arrests
An shooting that occurred overnight outside a movie theater on the Las Vegas Strip on Wednesday has two people critically wounded and one person with a minor injury, police said.
The police don't think that the shooting, which took place after midnight inside a parking structure, was a random act of violence. Officer Laura Meltzer said the shooter or shooters have yet to be identified.
She also said that previous claims from a police spokesperson that was in the theater lobby area were not correct.
"The theater had nothing to do with it. They were not coming from the movie. It was not in the theater lobby," Meltzer told The Associated Press.
Investigators felt that the shooting stemmed from members of two groups that confronted one another in the parking area near the UA Showcase 8 Theater, according to Meltzer. The parking lot structure lobby has an entrance that goes into the theater as well as Las Vegas Boulevard.
Although it wasn't clear how many shooters were involved in the ordeal, Meltzer did say that multiple shots were fired.
When police arrived, they found a seriously wounded individual in the lobby of the parking structure and another inside the elevator on the fifth floor of the six-story lot. Both of the victims are now reportedly in critical condition at University Medical Center in Las Vegas and their names haven't been released yet.
A third victim was located by the street in front of the elevator lobby. He was said to be treated at the scene for an injury that Meltzer stated wasn't believed to be life-threatening. The wounded individuals were said to be men, but their ages were not given.
Meltzer said investigators don't feel that the confrontation between the two groups was anything gang-related, but they were still trying to figure out the relationship between them.
