Is there any hope for Anna and Mr. Bates on the final season of Downton Abbey?

Anna & Bates To Have 'A Lot Of Drama' On 'Downton Abbey'

These two have had a lot of misfortunes in their relationship, one of them including Anna's sexual assault and Bates being held responsible for the attacker's death. There's still no official conclusion for that, but there will likely be closure in the last season.

On Monday, The Star posted details from Brendan Coyle (Bates) who revealed a storyline that fans can expect to see. What he said sounds like good news, but will it stay that way?

Are Branson & Robert Going To Find Their Place On 'Downton Abbey?'

"Well, they love each other very much," Coyle said about Bates and Anna. "There are moments of reprieve. And they are very loyal to each other. Once we got married, and we got married early on, I think to have a happily married couple becomes a bit boring. So they had to give us obstacles and conflict. It's all part of the drama. Do they achieve happiness finally? I can't say."

The actor also opened up on what it felt like to film the final moments in the show. To him it was "just like any other series."

"I try to rightsize things in my life," he added. "It will probably hit me more when I'm not on set in January for the first time in years."

Downton Abbey Season 6 premieres in the United States on Sunday, January 3 on PBS.
