The Virginia police chief involved in Chris Brown's probation scandal has officially resigned.

Bryan Norwood, the chief of the Virginia Police Department who wrote a letter to a Los Angeles judge saying Brown completed the requested 202 days of community service, had reached a "mutual agreement" for his resignation with the mayor of Richmond, Va. The surprise departure came less than a week after Brown attended a hearing to investigate the matter.

The Don't Judge Me singer's community service hours were called into question after a Los Angeles judge became suspicious about documents showed that Brown was supervised for only nine or 10 out of his mandatory sessions. According to the documents, Brown performed part of his service at a children's center where his mother once worked as a director. The paperwork stated that Brown performed part of his community service doing odd jobs such as painting, washing windows, waxing floors, cutting grass and picking up trash.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office began to investigate after the judge's suspicions and said they found no "credible, competent or verifiable evidence" that Brown completed his 180 days of community service. Deputy District Attorney Mary Murray then asked that Brown's community service be rejected for "significant discrepancies indicating at best sloppy documentation and at worst fraudulent reporting."

Brown claimed to have serviced the legally mandated service when on one occasion he was on an airplane flying to Cancun, Mexico.

"Entertainer Chris Brown failed to provide 'credible, competent or verifiable evidence' that he completed his court-ordered community labor," the Los Angeles district attorney told Hollywood Life. "[We] asked the court to order Brown to fulfill his obligation in Los Angeles County."

Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, told Reuters the allegations are "scurrilous, libelous and defamatory.

"The prosecution has lost their collective minds," Geragos said. "I'm going to seek sanctions against the (district attorney's) office for bringing a frivolous motion."

Brown was called into a hearing on Feb.5. and sat before a judge on Feb. 6. His girlfriend Rihanna went with him to court  to address the issues surrounding his completion of community service. Rihanna's show of support was considered shocking in reports because Brown was sentenced with the community service as part of his probation after he was convicted for assaulting her on the eve of the Grammys in 2009. At one point, Rihanna was seen blowing him a kiss in the courtroom.

The judge said he needed more time to review Geragos' argument that the Los Angeles District Attorney's office did not have their facts straight, according to TMZ. He ordered Brown to meet with his probation officer within two days of Wednesday's hearing. The judge said he wants to hear the probation officer's side of the story after their meeting and scheduled Brown's next court date for April 5.
