Is the new season of Degrassi going to take on new vibes from previous years?

Check Out The New Opening Sequence For 'Degrassi: Next Class'

While the series is already known for tackling controversial issues, it was revealed from co-creator Linda Schuyler that the show will still keep up with its originality.

"I don't want to make it feel like, 'Oh, we've gone to Netflix and we're going sensational' because that is so not true," Schuyler said in Friday's report from CP24. "I think if anything, we're back to our real roots. We might have just shied away from them a little bit towards the end of 'Next Generation.'"

'Degrassi' Actor Says Series Will Take On 'Dangers' Of Technology

The series will be premiering on Netflix and on Family Channel during a teen block of programming called F2N. Having both of these networks together actually adds more freedom for the writers.

"Their attitude to working with us is, 'You are the people who are the experts, you've been doing this show long enough, we are not going to give you a lot of notes.' And that, I would say, has been very, very refreshing for myself and for the writers," Schuyler said. "But I still feel tremendous responsibility because I know I'm producing for a youth market and I know that our storytelling has to be responsible."

The new season is expected to have a lot of storylines revolving around social media and new technology.

Degrassi: Next Class premieres on Friday, January 15 on Netflix and on Family Channel this Monday.
