Good news about J. Cole was brought to light Tuesday but it also means not-so-great news for the women who have been crushing on him for years now.

It turns out the rapper, whose real name is Jermaine Cole, is married! He confirmed the news Monday, but he didn’t mean to! He had a little help with director Ryan Coogler during a Martin Luther King Day celebration in New York City.

Coogler, with his head down, asked J. Cole, “How did getting married change you bro?”

The rapper was clearly taken aback by the question and asked, “What is that my man?!” while the crowd cheered.

Coogler then apologized and pointed out that J. Cole was his very first interview.

Cole schooled him real quick and said, “That was like one thing to not do,” before letting him know, “It’s all good.

Coogler asked, “Nobody knows?”

J. Cole confirmed that he is married when he said, “Well they know now.”

He didn’t say who the blushing bride is, but rumor has it that it is his longtime girlfriend Melissa Heholt. The two met back in 2003 when they were students at St. John’s University in New York.

J. Cole once said of marriage that it was only a “piece of paper” to him; especially because he has been in a relationship for so long.

“There’s no real difference. In marriage you got to go through the same struggles as a relationship.”
