The 23-year-old British singer has been settling for a while in his hometown when he witnessed his friend getting an alleged racial attack.

Smith then tweeted his concerns:

Though the singer did not mention specifically the person he was referencing, but did continue to speak out on the situation. "I never ever, ever, ever thought that would happen here. Absolutely speechless and hurt," he wrote. "I feel like I have to shine some sort of light on it. The police were so unhelpful in the situation and it's deeply shocked me."

"Humans are HUMANS," Smith continued. "I feel like I have to say something. I'm just so upset. So UPSET."

Meanwhile, the "Stay With Me" singer has been enjoying his break in U.K. follwing a busy schedule of performing, promoting AND working on his follow-up to 2014's In the Lonely Hour. Ealier this month, the singer hit the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Golden Globes, where he nabbed the Best Original Song award for his Spectre theme, "Writing's on the Wall."
