The single and music video for David Bowie's new track The Stars (Are Out Tonight) was released on Tuesday.

The video features the 66-year-old singer with Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton who plays the role of Bowie's suburban wife, according to NBC News.

Bowie and Swinton star as a married couple whose lives are disrupted when a celebrity couple, played by androgynous models Andrej Pejic and Saskia De Brauw, move in next door. The video also features Norwegian model Iselin Steiro as a young Bowie.

A statement on Bowie's website noted that the story "at once captures a twenty first century moment in its convergence of age, gender and the normal/celebrity divide."

The Daily Telegraph's rock and pop critic Neil McCormick said Bowie's latest work is "teasing us with ideas of Bowie both as an aging recluse and an ageless androgynous rock star." McCormick added that Bowie has returned as a master of his craft by showing every other rock star "old or young, how things should be done."

The video was directed by Floria Sigismondi, who worked with Bowie on his video for Little Wonder in 1996 and Dead Man Walking in 1997. Sigismondi has directed videos for a long list of other musicians that include Muse, The Cure, Katy Perry and The White Stripes.

Bowie's co-star Swinton won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for her role in the George Clooney thriller Michael Clayton. This is not Swinton's first starring role in a music video; she also starred in Orbital's The Box in 1996.

The Stars will be features on Bowie's The New Day album, which will be released on March 12. The record is Bowie's first since Reality in 2003 and his 24th studio album.
