Milan Fashion Week ended Tuesday and with the top designers debuting their fall and winters collections, a few trends stood out among the crowd.

Collections from Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Roberto Cavalli showcased a lot of dark palettes and masculine styles for the 2013-14 autumn/winter. Armani included suspenders, jumpsuits and Miuccia Prada chose a "post-industrial setting" to present her collection for the modern woman.

"It seems to me that in the contemporary world you cannot let yourself go completely," Prada said after her show.

Gucci designer Frida Giannini created pieces in purple, rust, moss green and dark blue for a look that she described as "steely yet sexy," according to The Associated Press. Armani showed a group of black dresses connected by a similar detailed and intricate beading. Some were sheer and gave the illusion of showing more than desired and cutout styles continued among designers such as Emilio Pucci

Many bold choices by designers were turned toward accessories. Versace added silver spikes on chain necklaces and studded boots, and Cavalli creating necklaces in the shape of snakes and roses along with earrings large enough that they fall over the ears. Dolce & Gabbana wowed, on the other hand, by ending their show with a gown created around a basket using weaves as the corset.

Pants stayed mostly skinny and designers did play on leathers, such as Salvatore Ferragamo who did a short leather pencil skirt in both black and white, leather jackets (including those with a mix of snake skin) and pants. See more photos here.
