Following Richards' lawsuit, in which the actress alleged Sheen threatened the lives of her and her children, and failed to follow through with their trust agreement, Sheen and attorney Robert Brandt parted ways.

According to the report, Kaplan previously worked with Britney Spears' ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

As for Richards' lawsuit against Sheen, sources claim it has nothing to do with her. Instead, she's looking out for the best interest of her two kids with Sheen, daughters Sam and Lola.

“This has nothing to do with Denise getting any money out of Charlie for herself," a source previously told Radar Online. "This is only for their daughters, period. There was a trust agreement drawn up in 2014 and Denise just wants Charlie to abide by the terms of it. There was money put into the girls’ trust fund, but it’s nowhere near the $7 million that is required to be in the account.”

“Denise hasn’t spoken to Charlie in weeks, and neither have the girls. She is simply fighting for them, period. For anyone to say this is a money grab on her part, isn’t aware of all the facts. Everything will come out in court," the source said. "This was the last thing Denise wanted to do, but Charlie refused to resolve the issue. She was left with no other choice.”
