A sloth was rescued while trying to cross a busy road in Quevedo, Ecuador. He was stranded in the middle of a highway and clinging to a support pole. The creature refused to leave the place until officers arrived. A "beautiful" sloth was trying to cross a road, clinging on to a traffic median for safety, the Transit Authority of Ecuador wrote in a Facebook post on Friday.

"We want to let you know the sloth was rescued and taken by our officers to a doctor, who said the sloth was in good conditions to be returned to its habitat," the Transit Authority wrote in a comment on the Facebook post.

Despite its predicament, the sloth appears to be smiling in the photos, as police attend to it.

Without specifying the place, the Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE) reported that the sloth was taken to a safe place.

Sloths are endemic mammals of the rain forests of Central and South America are related to anteaters.
