The latest update about Fast and Furious 8 kind of set in stone the setting for the film, the ultimate, the best, New York City.

After much speculation Vin Diesel finally made it official by posting a picture of a poster for the movie, with New York City in the backdrop.

Recently, even director F. Gary Gray dished more about what fans can expect from the Furious 7 sequel and his vision for the movie.

Speaking to Collider, Gray was careful not give too much away but he did assure fans that he would bring something new to the table.

"I'm probably not at liberty to go too far into detail," he said. "All I have to say is I'm extremely excited about the direction we're going in, and we're really pushing to make sure the audience feels like it's not more of the same. They feel like it's fresh, they feel like the characters they've come to know and love are there, but this is gonna be different, and that's probably the most I can give you right now."

He also revealed that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was an inspiration when asked if he intended on taking on big action sequences or working more on getting into the character stories for the movie.

"It's a combination of both. When you look at someone like J.J. Abrams who gives you the spectacle and great action set pieces but also gives you character and plotting and narrative, I think it's my job-and my intention-to do both," he said. "You amp up everything, you work on the performances, you work on the story, you work on the action; it's just not one thing. Hopefully I bring more to it, that's part of the point is to bring something different to the franchise while still satisfying what the fans want."

There has also been speculation about foreign locations for the film. Most recently Iceland has come up in these discussions. Previously, Variety reported that Fast and Furious 8 is set to take those hot wheels to Cuba. An insider from Universal Studios spoke to the publication. "Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the 'Fast & Furious' series in Cuba," the spokeswoman said.

In another Variety exclusive, Diesel Universal Chairman Donna Langley, and NBC Universal vice-chairman, Ron Meyer also dished about the movie. Diesel revealed that the team was working on various storylines to make this happen. "We've written out story lines for various characters," he said. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating it with a lot of class."

Langley hinted about how there was scope to do a lot with the variety of characters they had in the series. "We're certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now," she said. "It's an ensemble cast and there's room to bring characters in and out."

Meyer put to rest rumors about the possibility of Paul Walker's character Brian O'Connor being brought back with the help of CGI and body doubles in Fast and Furious 8.

"Paul won't be in it, but he'll be represented in some form or another but whether his image is in it, I can't tell you yet, but he won't be in the film as a performer, as an actor, the way we did it last time," said Meyer. "It will still be 'Fast and Furious,' it will just be without Paul."

Fast and Furious 8 will be released on April 15, 2017.

Furious 7 hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
