Golden Globes 2012 Red Carpet vs. Oscars 2013 Red Carpet: Did the Stars Outdo Themselves? PHOTOS
Many of the stars that attended the 2012 Golden Globes, which was held on Jan. 15, also attended the 85th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday.
They arrived on the red carpet in very different styles and begged the question: did they outdo themselves a year later? Enstarz chose three stars who we believe made the biggest transformations, some good and some bad.
One of the biggest awards a starlet can hope to win at the Academy Awards is the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. This year Jessica Chastain was nominated in the category - alongside Sally Fields, Anne Hathaway and others - and knew that all eyes would be on her whether she went on stage to accept the award or not. The Zero Dark Thirty actress attended the Oscars in a nude, glimmering Armani gown that she paired with red lipstick and old Hollywood glamour waves in her red hair. The strapless dress was straight cut and hugged her body while sweeping the floor.
The look was an upgrade from her Golden Globes 2012 dress: a high-neck, white beaded Givenchy gown that she paired with Harry Winston jewels including diamond earrings, a bracelet and a diamond feather ring. She was nominated that year for her role in The Help but her gown did not demand the attention she deserved. Her hair was pulled back and looked a bit too stiff as well.
Reese Witherspoon was not nominated for an Oscar this year but she still captured attention on the red carpet with her black and royal blue Louis Vuitton gown. Her hair was pulled to one side and she wore diamond earrings, a bracelet and rings. However, she may have looked better back in 2012. Her Golden Globes gown, a red Zac Posen number, hugged her body and draped to the floor better that the Louis Vuitton one, which had extra material that seemed to crunch up from her knees downward. The tiny-waisted actress successfully showed off her toned shaped in the mermaid red gown, which she matched in similar fashion with beach-waved hair.
Another starlet who made a remarkable change in her look was Identity Thief actress Melissa McCarthy. In 2011 she was considered a breakout star for her roles in Bridesmaids and Mike & Molly, and she arrives on the Golden Globes red carpet in a hunter green Badgley Mischka number. The dress was long-sleeved and empire-waisted, with breading around the neckline that McCarthy chose to pair with drop earrings.
At the Oscars she was almost unrecognizable and Enstarz is unsure if that is a good or bad thing. She was photographed on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre wearing a grey David Meister dress in jersey material that had jeweled embellishments on the shoulder and sleeves. It seems like the cut and color of her Golden Globes dress suited her better and shaped her figure better, whereas the grey dress was cinched in all the wrong placed and only added more material for McCarthy to layer on. On the other hand, her darker hair color and wavy hairstyle the Oscars was much more youthful and suiting that her pulled back and teased Globes look.
