One of the stars of Downton Abbey gave an update on a possible movie based on the series.

Final Episode Of 'Downton Abbey' Has Made Grown Men Cry

As the British drama finishes up its final season, there have been rumors back and forth that the show might get followed up with a film. In Saturday's report from People, Allen Leech (who plays Tom) gave the impression that a movie does have a chance of happening in the future.

"Played by an all-American cast," he joked at the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet preshow.

Producer Says 'Not Everyone Will Have A Happy Ending' On 'Downton Abbey'

"I think a lot of the cast will be coming back for a one-off, so we'll just have to wait and see," he added.

Leech isn't the only one to imply that a movie with the Crawleys could happen. In a post from The Sun, executive producer Gareth Neame said he was "keen" on making the possibility come true.

"There is no script and no firm plan, but it's certainly something there is talk of," Neame said. "We're not in denial about anything. We'll know more next year."

The producer then mentioned that the series could have lasted longer than six seasons, but one of the main reasons why it was time to let it end now was because Maggie Smith (Violet Crawley) probably wouldn't have stayed. But that doesn't mean there is any remorse on letting the series run its course.

"We all feel very blessed," the producer said. "Nobody regrets ending when we did. We have a final season that's as strong as the first because we quit while we were ahead. We had the ambition that we had a complete show."

Downton Abbey airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
