His own addiction is what led to the fatal accident that killed his best friend, but Eric (Greg Vaughan) won't let his own mistakes be repeated by someone else struggling with the disease on Days of Our Lives

Joey Is Stunned After Catching Steve & Ava Together

After rejection from Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Serena's shocking murder, Eric's drinking got progressively more out of control, until New Year's Eve when he drove drunk, causing a three-car accident that gave Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) back problems, nearly killed Brady (Eric Martsolf), who needed a heart transplant to survive, and killed Daniel, whose heart was given to Brady. Since then, Eric has become a bit of a pariah in town with no one wanting anything to do with him anymore, and he was beginning to turn back to alcohol to cope with the problems.

However, Jennifer happened to catch him and snatched the booze away and berated him for thinking about resorting to alcohol again. But now, after observing her, Eric will realize that Jennifer is battling her own new addiction--to her painkiller pills.

Since receiving the pills when her back injury was discovered, Jennifer has been sneaking multiple pills and taking far too high of doses--and has naturally run out of pills rather quickly as a result. Now, Eric will clue in to what is going on with her and deal her some tough love right back--reminding her that unlike him, she still has a chance to be redeemed because her actions haven't had horrifying consequences just yet.

However, Jennifer could deny she has a problem, and it could already be too late to save her from herself.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
