Harrison Ford will reportedly join the cast of the upcoming sequel to the Will Ferrell comedy Anchorman.

The 70-year-old actor will star as a character along the lines of a Tom Brokaw-like veteran newscaster, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ford previously starred as an anchorman in the 2010 comedy Morning Glory alongside Rachel McAdams and Diane Keaton.

Ferrell will reprise his role as the titular anchorman Ron Burgundy along with fellow cast members Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner.

The production for Anchorman: The Legend Continues began at the beginning of March in Atlanta.

Ferrell was recently spotted in a picture from the set with the comic actor appearing in full costume that can be seen at TMZ. The picture shows Ferrell stepping out of a black SUV sporting his famous burgundy suit, retro hair and bold mustache.

The plot of Anchorman 2 has been kept secret, but producer Judd Apatow told MTV News that the script is indeed funny.

"We read it a few weeks ago and people were laughing so hard that at about 40 minutes in we all just ran out of gas," Apatow said. "It was hard to read the whole thing because we got tired [from laughing]. I've never seen anyone delight in playing a character than Will acting like Ron Burgundy all day. He's just so happy doing it it's infectious."

Joining Ford as a part of new cast members on the film is Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig in a role that has yet to be announced to the public.

Ford is also rumored to be in talks to reprise his role as Han Solo in the next Star Wars film.

The rumor was reported by Latino Review, but there is no comment on the recent alleged news by either Ford or representatives of Disney in charge of the project.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues is set to hit theaters Dec. 20, 2013.
