On Instagram on Monday, the country star shared a quote from an African proverb.

"This moves me beyond measure. It is our choice who we love but not who we extend love to," the message read. "As a human being this concept is so beyond what we are capable of, but it is something I strive for more and more with every passing day."

"Extending love to those who have wronged us, those who do not show us the same in return is a true test. Somedays I pass it, others I don't," she continued. "We have all had and will have moments where we aren't the easiest to love, but in those moments we need it the most. Extend love, even the tiniest bit in the toughest of situations will lighten the darkness."

Rimes' post came after her husband, Eddie Cibrian, called out his ex-wife, Brandi Glanville, for claiming she had asked Rimes not to post about their sons.

"It upsets me," Cibrian told People Magazine. "Brandi is lying. She lies for the sake of publicity and she has to bring in my wife unfortunately for it to make headlines. It isn't fair. She never asked LeAnn to not post pictures of the kids during the holidays, ever. They don't even talk!"
