Derek Hough recently commented on his sister, Julianne Hough, and her departure from ABC's Dancing With the Stars.

Are Antonio Brown & Paige VanZant About To Join 'Dancing With the Stars'?

Julianne was a judge for the past three seasons of Dancing With the Stars but announced earlier this month that she was leaving to pursue other opportunities. Derek, who remains a pro on the show, told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday about why it's okay that she's leaving.

"I think she did three great seasons, and it's time for her to go," Derek said, before quickly walking back his blunt statement that it's time for her to go. "She's got great things on the horizon, and she's doing great things. Len [Goodman]'s coming back, and so, you know, I think four judges feels a little redundant anyways, so I think it's the right thing to do."

Derek was also asked if he would ever go from being a pro to a judge, which the 30-year-old ultimately dismissed.

"Who knows, I dunno. Not anytime in the near future, I think that'd be weird," he said. "It'd be too soon."

Derek will likely be a pro on the new season of Dancing With the Stars, but the official cast announcement will be March 8 on ABC's Good Morning America, where both celebs and pros are expected to be revealed.

Dancing With the Stars season 22 premieres Monday, March 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
