Amber Holcomb 'American Idol' VIDEO: Top 10 Performance of 'A Moment Like This' by Kelly Clarkson
During top 10 performances on American Idol Wednesday night, contestant Amber Holcomb sang a rendition of season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson's song A Moment Like This.
All contestants had to take to the stage with a song either recorded or performed by a former Idol winner in a night of performances themed "Music of Americal Idol." Following Holcomb's performance, judge Nicki Minaj compared the 18-year-old's voice to that of Whitney Houston.
Holcomb received a standing ovation on Wednesday and Minaj added it was the "best performance of the night."
"Your voice and your aura reminds me of Whitney Houston's first album. That last note was giving me Whitney, baby," said the rapper in a interesting comment, considering the fact that Holcomb performed Houston's I Will Always Love You last week.
Keith Urban said, "Wow, Amber, that was beautiful. I loved that song for you. I love how effortless you sing."
Randy Jackson started off with "I love you" and continued on with the following:
"First of all, the greatest American Idol song ever for a finale, [one of the] greatest American Idol winners, and you blew it out of the box tonight. I feel like you have arrived and you now feel like you belong there."
Mariah Carey told Holcomb, "#Pow, that's all I can say" and added, "To critique it is almost unnecessary, because you give us goosebumps."
Holcomb made it to the top 20 in last season of American Idol and in a 2012 interview the Texas native said she was inspired to audition after SHE saw the success OF alums Carrie Underwood and Fantasia. She also admitted that Underwood and season six winner Jordin Sparks are her favorite American Idol veterans.
American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7 p.m. Central on Fox.
