Agents of SHIELD is setting us up for a tearjerker of a finale.

Coulson's (Clark Gregg) team returned from their winter hiatus on Tuesday, but no before viewers were treated to a cryptic and heart wrenching flash-forward - a Quinn jet floating in zero G, the shoulder of an unconscious SHIELD agent, Slingshot's necklace, and then nothing but flames.
So, what does it all mean?
"Obviously we won't say much about it. The visual is designed to get you asking questions," showrunner Jed Whedon teased, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I think that will become clear later in the season what exactly we're promising, but I don't think that flash forward bodes well."
That doesn't mean you will have to wait until 11th hour to find out exactly what's going on.
"We will be peeling back the details and layers of that vision as we go for the back half," co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen promised.
Who do you think is in the Quinn jet? Is it really one Coulson's team, or is it merely someone impersonating them? Right now there seem to be three possibilities -
- Elena (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) - it is her necklace, after all. We're going to knock Slingshot out of contention, however. Marvel is never that straight forward.
- Mack (Henry Simmons) - his burgeoning relationship with Elena makes his a prime candidate to somehow acquire her cross.
- Hive - if SHIELD wants to off their latest threat, blowing him up in the cold vacuum of space seems like their best option.
