Though its latest film adaptation will be released in a couple of months, book sales of The Hunger Games trilogy continues to plumet and in addition to a weaker book-club demand, Scholastic Corp. faced a wider third-quarter loss, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Overall sales for the book publisher dropped 19 percent thought a film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated to be released in theaters Nov. 22, 2013. The publishing house hoped fans of the trilogy and excitement about the next film in the franchise would boost sales of the second book in the series, but ultimately, shares slid 13 percent to $26.91 in recent trading.

So far this year, Scholastic stock has fallen 9 percent, according to the report.

"Third quarter sales of The Hunger Games trilogy were significantly lower than our expectations, particularly in the U.S., Canada and Australia," President and Chief Executive Richard Robinson said Thursday.

The first Hunger Games film released in theaters in March 23, 2012, and the marketing push to create hype around the film bolstered sales of the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. The company now projects full-year adjusted earnings between $1.10 to $1.30 a share on revenue of $1.75 billion to $1.8 billion. The estimates are down from the November view of $1.40 to $1.60 a share in profit on $1.8 billion to $1.9 billion in revenue.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire will feature many of the same stars from the first film such as Jennifer Lawrence playing the lead female role of Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson playing the male lead, Peeta Mellark. The film also stars Liam Hemsworth as Katniss' friend Gale Hawthorne, Elizabeth Banks, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stanley Tucci.

In the film Everdeen and Mellark are stripped of their respective victory riches and put back in the arena for another Hunger Games "match" known as the Quarter Quell. Watch a fan-made trailer for the film below.
