Justin Timberlake's album The 20/20 Experience sold 968,000 copies in its first week, the most since Taylor Swift's Red that sold 1.2 million in October 2012.

Experience also became the fastest-selling album worldwide in iTunes history, according to E! Upon hearing about the succcess of his new album, which was released on March 19, Timberlake took to Twitter to express how he felt.

"Whoa... Speechless. Shocked. Numbers go up, numbers go down. I just hope this album makes your Summer... You already made mine #bestfansever," he tweeted.

He added that he wants to repay his fans, by posting, "I'm gonna find a way to show my appreciation to you ladies and gents this week... Stay tuned. #finderskeepers."

News of Timberlake's skyrocketing sales come of no surprise to experts. Billboard noted on March 22 that music industry sources predicted Experience could sell between 850,000 and 900,000 when final numbers for its debut week were calculated on March 24.

The 31-year-old pop singer did a couple of promotions in anticipation for Experience and numbers show that they all paid off. He performed songs from the album on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon every night for a week leading up to the release of Experience. His album release party was taped for a one-hour television special that aired on March 19 on CW and then again on March 22. During the airing he premiered a new eight-minute music video for his second single off of the album - Mirrors.

Experience was streaming on iTunes at least a week before the album's official release. He also performed songs off of the album, such as Suit & Tie, on Saturday Night Live, during Surper Bowl Weekend and at the Grammy Awards. A few bonus tracks were also released through Target, the second-biggest retailer for the album, according to Rolling Stone.

At his album release party on March 18, Timberlake announced a second half of his new album to be released later in the year. He told the crowd at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre, "I need to clear up a rumor." He then addressed claims that his new album is only "the first half of the album."
