With the theme for season 6 of American Horror Story still unannounced, fans are desperate for any hint of what's ahead for the show, and that includes speculating about Evan Peters' new beard.

Peters showed off a scraggly new beard on Instagram this week, along with some wild, windswept hair. It is not known if the beard is fake or not, but fans are wondering if this may be a hint of his season 6 American Horror Story role.

Very little has been revealed about season 6 of American Horror Story, including Peters' own involvement. Showrunner Ryan Murphy appeared on a PaleyFest panel in March alongside many AHS cast members and revealed that all of those actors could come back for season 6.

This list included Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Finn Wittrock. Peters did not attend this panel, but the actor has appeared in all five seasons of American Horror Story thus far and it seems pretty likely that he'll return for another one.

As for the concept of season 6, Murphy teased that he and his fellow executive producers had been working on multiple ideas.

"The interesting thing about this season is we've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done. So I don't want to say what it maybe is," Murphy said. "Both things that we're writing right now - we haven't declared a winner - will have a different form, so we're excited about that. We'll talk about it soon, but we haven't landed on it yet."

He also indicated that both ideas involve children in some capacity.

Peters has played a colorful cast of characters in his stint on American Horror Story. He played monstrous sociopath Tate Langdon in Murder House, Briarcliff inmate Kit Walker in Asylum, undead frat boy Kyle Spencer in Coven, "Lobster Boy" Jimmy Darling in Freak Show and sadistic hotel owner James Patrick March in Hotel.

American Horror Story season 6 is set to debut in the fall on FX.
