American Idol judge Nicki Minaj had harsh words for one Idol contestant, Devin Velez, after a less-than-thrilling performance of Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch. When the performance was over, Minaj said "I'm going to act like I didn't see that or hear it."

Velez spoke to Reality TV World on Friday, and stood up for himself in the face of Minaj's harsh words.

"Looking back at the video, I know where Nicki was coming from. I agree with the first half of her critique, you know, when she said that it felt like it was Hollywood Week -- that it was a joke, that stuff like that shouldn't be happening, that she was going to pretend that she didn't hear it," Velez told Reality TV World. "I agree with that. When she went crazy and was like, "Get off the stage!" blah, blah, blah, and it's just like, 'Whoa Miss Minaj, I need you to calm down, please. We're still human. We still have feelings.' She doesn't care sometimes, but it's all good. We still love Nicki."

Minaj also criticized Velez, along with Burnell Taylor and Lazaro Arbos, for forgetting the lyrics to the song they were performing , which Velez denied.

"The way my mother raised me was when someone is saying bad things about you and they're not true, guess what? They are not talking about you, so when Nicki Minaj was saying that we were forgetting our lyrics and that we were off pitch, without pointing fingers, I was not off pitch nor did I forget my lyrics."

The Idol judge had words for the miffed contestant on Twitter when she learned of his comments.

Minaj's post read, "Trust me BEW BEW. If EYE didn't want u in that TOP, YOU wouldn't have been in that TOP. Fought for ALL of you. So just simply b gracious." Minaj wasn't done there, continuing on Twitter with a second post that said, "Send the judges some flowers and a card. If Curtis didn't get SAVED, NONE of u get saved. Best male voice of the SEASON!!!!!!!!!!! #TruthTea."
