German authorities gave pop singer Justin Bieber a month to provide the necessary paperwork needed to release his pet monkey Mally that was quarantined when the singer entered the country, according to Reuters.

The 19-year-old landed in Munch, Germany on March 28 as part of his Believe tour with his pet but the animal was held back by customs agents after the singer failed to show a certificate of health and other authorizations. Bieber reportedly broke strict health laws by flying Mally into the country on his private jet without the proper paperwork and the animal was left at the airport while Bieber was in the country.

"If he doesn't (present the papers), Mally will be taken to a good animal shelter that has experience rearing groups of young capuchin monkeys and can ensure disoriented Mally becomes a healthy little capuchin," the shelter currently caring for the monkey said.

A spokesperson for Munch's customs office said it would decide whether to keep the animal at the current shelter it is at or move it elsewhere at the end of the deadline. He added that the singer would likely have to pay a fine, though an amount was not specified. Business Insider noted that Bieber may face a $15,000 fine.

The shelter watching over Mally said the monkey, who is around 14 weeks old, was taken away from its mother too early and is now receiving veterinary care.

Mally was reportedly a 19th birthday gift for Bieber from his friend Jamal Rashid, a music producer also known as Mally Mall. Bieber continuously posts photos of himself with Mally on his Instagram account. He most recent one, posted on March 30, was captioned "Kickin it with og."

Following his performance in Munich, Bieber traveled as part of his tour to Berlin on March 31. He then tweeted on Sunday that he was getting ready for his show in Hamburg.
