Superstar singer Rihanna has become the latest victim of the growing prank known as "swatting" on Thursday night, according to TMZ.

A 911 call came into LAPD in which the individual claimed that two armed men had entered the singer's palatial Pacific Palisades home and that someone inside the home had been shot.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to the call but officers who arrived on scene believe the emergency call to be a hoax, according to TMZ.

The swatting practical joke receives its name because the goal of the prank is to hack the 911 emergency communications system into deploying a SWAT team to the home of the unsuspecting "victim" under false pretenses.

Rihanna, 25, is the latest in a growing line of celebrities who have received the SWAT treatment.

The incident comes just one day after Sean "Diddy" Combs was also the butt of the swatting joke in the San Fernando Valley.

Her on and off again boyfriend Chris Brown was also a victim of the prank in January, after authorities received a domestic violence incident 911 call which they said had occurred at Brown's Hollywood home. Police who responded to the call again learned that they had been had by the pesky hackers.

Rihanna was in the news earlier in the day for a swat of her own when footage from the latest trailer of This Is The End - an apocalyptic comedy also starring Seth Rogen and James Franco - showed the singer slapping co-star Michael Cerra.

The smack was in good fun, however, as Rihanna's character was merely refusing to turn the other cheek after Cerra's character grabbed her impressive behind during a scene in the film.

The film takes place following a series of cataclysmic events which have rezoned the greater Los Angeles area. Alongside Rihanna, Cerra, Franco and Rogen the film stars Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson.
