With Dragon Ball Super's new arc about to begin in a few weeks, numerous speculations have emerged concerning details that were released by series creator Akira Toriyama and Toei Animation during their massive announcement this past week.

Of course, considering that the center of Toriyama's announcement centers on the return of Future Trunks, a significant number of rumors have emerged about his fate and his role in the new arc.

When the design for Future Trunks was released, numerous fans were quick to point out that the character's iconic purple hair color was changed to a light blue shade. Though the change might simply be cosmetic for purposes of the new arc, several fans alleged that there might be some meaning behind the change in Future Trunk's hair color.

Some fans have speculated that the blue hair color might be foreshadowing to the fact that Future Trunks would be able to reach Super Saiyan Blue during the arc. After all, coming from a future where there is a very dangerous threat in the form of Black Goku, there is a possibility that Trunks might have already been able to reach power level far beyond what he was initially capable of.

Another, much darker theory put forward by fans concerns the main enemy of the upcoming arc, the man known only by the moniker of Black Goku. Considering that the name alone implies that the character is a tainted version of Goku, the immense power the character holds is already a given.

Considering that Future Trunks is coming from a future where Black Goku is running amok, some fans are speculating that the color change in his hair is something that he did himself, possibly after something very significant. A possible scenario in this theory would be something like Black Goku slaying numerous people in the future, including Trunks' mother, Bulma. After all, looking at the hair color in Future Trunks' new design, his hair is exactly the same shade as his mother's.

Thus, some fans are alleging that he might have colored his hair blue in order to honor his mother, who fell because of Black Goku's tyranny. After all, Akira Toriyama did mention that Future Trunks will be coming from a world that is ravaged.

Then again, Dragon Ball is known for its light-hearted humor and equally lighthearted storytelling. As such, the reasons behind the color change in his hair might simply be comical or insignificant. Until the next season does start, however, all we have for now are these speculations.

In a lot of ways, they do make sense.
