Selena Gomez is expected to release her new album in summer 2013 and one thing fans will not be hearing much of is heartbreaking ballads about her split with Justin Bieber.

The 20-year-old singer/actress wanted to keep the subject matter of her album upbeat, Jason Evigan, part of the production team the Suspex, told MTV News. In a recent interview he opened up about working with Gomez on the album and the recently the leaked track Rule the World.

"She didn't really want to talk about the Justin stuff too much in her music," he said. "She didn't want to bash him. She never wanted to write songs about him."

He even assured fans that Rule the World, is not about Bieber and that Gomez has no intention of mentioning the 19-year-old in the track. Sources said Bieber's wild antics recently have been a result of him having a hard time getting over his breakup with Gomez. She, on the other hand, does not wish to linger on those emotions.

"I think she was upset about it because she didn't want to write a song about 'You broke my heart.' She's empowering," Evigan said about fans assuming Rule the World is about Bieber. "She wants to be empowering for these girls not to dwell on guys when guys break your heart.

"She's super uplifting, positive, amazing person who's, spiritually, she's really strong. And she's a really cool girl. I think she's gonna have a great year for her."

In anticipation for the summer release of her album, Gomez will perform at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on April 14. She will take to the stage with her single Come and Get It, which include the lyrics, "I'm not too shy to show you I love you/ I got no regrets/ So baby whenever you're ready/ When you ready come and get it."

The song will premiere on Ryan Seacrest's radio show April 8.
