Jamal Lyon might be staying quiet on social media after he dropped a bomb and hinted that he is leaving Fox’s juggernaut series Empire. But after his first interview since the tweet, it looks like he possibly confirmed that Jamal is really done for good.

Entertainment Tonight caught up with the singer and actor during Fox’s Upfront special in New York City Monday.

“It’s difficult,” he said before telling viewers to tune in to the season finale tonight (May 17). “It’s really going to be wrapped up… It’s handled in a beautiful way. It’s all love. I think there’s gonna be some tears. But there’s also gonna be a lot of happiness. So it’s okay. It’s gonna be great. It’s a phenomenal finale. All questions will be answered… Wednesday at 9/8c only on Fox.”

He also joked that the creator and executive producer Lee Daniels has been receiving death threats on social media. Fans have told him, “If Jamal dies, you die…” and adding knife emojis to get their point across.

“Fans are another level… But we’ll have to wait, we’ll have to see it.”

Smollett also dished to E! News about the cryptic tweet he sent that started the spiral of rumors to begin with.

“I sent out a tweet and apparently it got fans spinning, that’s all I can tell you about that… The holes will be filled, and the ribbons will be tied in a nice little bow.”

Jamal is fighting for his life on the show after he took a bullet for his father, Lucious Lyon, as Freda Gatz tried to kill Lucious. She had just found out that Lucious killed her father, Fred Gatz in prison. Word is Smollett is still under contract and isn’t leaving after this season.

Don’t miss the highly anticipated season two finale of Fox’s Empire tonight at 9/8c.
