T-Mobile began its sales of Apple's iPhone 5 on Friday while also marking the first time the U.S. carrier has offered an Apple smartphone, according to TechCrunch.

The Phone 5 will be starting at $99 with two-year $20 monthly payments, or for free if switching from another carrier and bringing a device in for trade. Service fees for voice, text and data start at $50 per month.

BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk tweeted a photo of a line at a location on Friday, and the news report cited other sources that said small lines have formed at various T-Mobile locations around the U.S.

T-Mobile is only now starting to offer its customers the more-than-six-month-old Apple device. AT&T, Sprint and Verizon began selling the smartphone back in September of 2012.

At an event held in New York in late March CEO John Legere said the company not selling the iPhone 5 "was such a huge void in our device portfolio," according to The Huffington Post. He also addressed U.S. carriers AT&T, Verizon and Sprint - all of which require customers to sign contracts in order to get discounts on iPhones. Legere said to them, "Stop the bull---t."

The phone can be purchased in black lined with slate, or white lined with silver.

The iPhone 5 has a 4.0-inch screen, 4G LTE with Retina Display and a 1136x640 resolution at 326 ppi. Its operating system is iOS 6.0 and it features 225 hours of standby time and up to eight hours of talk time. Width is 2.31 inches (58.6 mm) and height is 4.87 inches (123.8 mm).

A 8-megapixel iSight camera is included along with a full HD 1080 pixel video recording. The phone weighs in at 3.95 oz and has a 1 GB RAM. Siri included.
