Folk band Bon Iver won the Grammy for Best New Artist on Sunday, beating out the favorite, Nicky Minaj.

“It’s really hard to accept this award. There’s so much talent out there,” lead singer Justin Vernon said in his acceptance speech at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Minaj’s top selling album, Pink Friday, made her a favorite to win the award. However Bon Iver’s album Bon Iver did gain some success, becoming a number one album on the Billboard Rock Album charts.

The competition for the award also included The Band Perry, J. Cole, and Skrlllex.
