Nashville may get a renewal after all-- but will the cast return?

On Tuesday, Entertainment Weekly announced that the series, which was axed from ABC after four seasons, may end up on country network CMT. The show may last long enough to at least get a fifth season on the cable network at this point.

The site mentioned that it's unclear if the two leading stars Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere would be on board for the potential new season. However, Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs said that these stars are "essential" to the show's journey.

In a previous report from Deadline, Beggs mentioned that an idea may already be planned for what might go down if a renewal for the series becomes official.

"We want to thank creator Callie Khouri and showrunner Dee Johnson for their inspiration and guidance through tonight's exciting season finale, and know that more of the Nashville story is waiting to be told," Beggs said.

Khouri also gave the impression that a lot of good storylines could take place should new episodes ever happen.

"Nashville fans are the absolute best, and support for the #BringBackNashville campaign has been amazing," Khouri said. "We are so grateful for our extremely loyal following. We have stories left to tell and songs left to sing."

The final episode of the series didn't give quite the closure that fans were hoping. Even though there seemed to be happy endings with everyone, that can't be said for Juliette and Avery despite the fact that it could've ended that way.

Juliette was flying in to see Avery when there turned out to be call in distress with no word on what just occurred. But if a renewal happens, then hopefully viewers will find out exactly where Juliette is.
