The hunt to find the new Live co-host is continuing as various male celebrities vie for the coveted spot next to Kelly Ripa.

Several celebrities have filled in as guest co-host on Live! with Kelly ever since Michael Strahan left his permanent co-host position in May. Now there's news that the new co-host will officially be announced before the start of the new season of Live, which begins in September.

This news comes from Entertainment Tonight, which is speculating that this might complicate matters with Anderson Cooper. Cooper has long been thought to be a frontrunner for the co-host spot but his job as a CNN anchor will become much busier in the fall with all the election coverage.

As for other contenders, Entertainment Tonight said in their new report that Fred Savage wants the job. The former star of The Wonder Years and The Grinder is set to co-host for three consecutive days next week and he apparently wants to do even more hosting - even if he's hesitant about having his family move to New York to be with him.

There's also Alec Baldwin, who recently told Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show that there is a certain appeal to Live.

"I have always said I wanted to do a show where I could stay home," Baldwin explained. "And the schedule of being able to stay home with my children is what I'd prefer. I do think about those things from time to time."

It's still not clear what direction Live might go in with its new co-host. The show has seen many incarnations over the years, with Regis Philbin and Cyndy Garvey, then Philbin and Kathee Lee Gifford, then just Philbin, then Philbin and Ripa, then just Ripa, then Ripa and Strahan. Ripa and Strahan just won their second consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.
