Suits is fresh out of Get Out of Jail Free cards. Mike Ross is behind bars, and no amount of legal legerdemain will help him slip those cuffs in the near future.

The faux Harvard grad found himself in the defendants seat last season, and his ill-advised decision to plea guilty landed him a two-year sentence. Wednesday's premiere focused on his first few hours in prison, and as bad as that night was, Mike (Patrick J Adams) will have 729 just like it. The Suits powers that be are not planning on glossing over their lead's misfortune.

"I can say in real time he's not going to be in there for two actual seasons, two actual years, but we didn't want to undo what we did in short order because it didn't seem real," executive producer Aaron Korsh told Fox News. "We've tried to, given how we ended [Season 5] and what we discover in [the first two episodes of Season 6], take it to its natural conclusion or some sort of plausible conclusion. I will say he doesn't get out super-fast."

So, either a time jump is in the cards, or Harvey (Gabriel Macht) will find away to liberate his mentee. For some fans, this dramatic change in tone has them worried. Last time Harvey and Mike went their separate ways, the story dragged. This time, however, the pals are on the same side.

"We took a huge chance sending Mike to prison at the end of season five.," Korsh told The Hollywood Reporter. "That could have been a series finale in my mind. We decided to not make it a series finale and to see what happens on the other side. We hope fans stick with us, and we think there's a lot of compelling stuff on the other side of what happened."
