Lady Gaga has officially announced her first single from her upcoming fifth studio album.

Gaga took to Instagram and Facebook to release a banner revealing the name of her first single: "Perfect Illusion". The banner indicates that the single will come out in September, though a specific day is not yet known. Gaga's website, ladygaga.com, has also been updated with colorful scrolling banners revealing the same info.

Gaga has had a busy couple of years between her duet album with Tony Bennett and her Oscar nominated song "Til It Happens to You", written for the documentary The Hunting Ground, but this is her first step back into pop music since her 2013 album ARTPOP.

ARTPOP was loved by many Gaga fans but it didn't exactly set the world on fire compared to her previous albums, The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way. Singles like "Applause" and "Do What You Want" performed well on the charts, but similarly didn't do as well as her smash hits like "Poker Face", "Just Dance", "Paparazzi", "Bad Romance" and "Born This Way".

The pop musician has been very quiet about her upcoming album, which fans have colloquially named "LG5" for now. After she won a Golden Globe for her performance in American Horror Story: Hotel, she revealed that she was putting out an album this year, though she did not specify when. As the months went on, Gaga's fans began wondering if new music was in fact coming out this year, considering how quiet she has been on social media.

Gaga is also keeping fans in the dark about her role in the upcoming season of American Horror Story. That's because the producers have decided to have fans go into this season not knowing what to expect, as opposed to revealing character names and plot details. It remains to be seen if Gaga's role will be as large as The Countess in Hotel or if she'll take a back seat to other actors.

Either way, September is a big month for Gaga fans, with the new single coming out in addition to the premiere of American Horror Story season 6 being Sept. 14.
