What does Ryan Lochte's dancing partner on Dancing With the Stars think of the controversial swimmer?

Lochte is set to compete on the next season of Dancing With the Stars, just a few weeks after the incident in Rio where he and some Olympic teammates made up a story about being robbed in order to cover up their vandalizing of a gas station.

Lochte has been paired with pro dancer Cheryl Burke for the upcoming season, who is returning after taking three seasons off. So how does Burke feel about her new partner?

"First of all, shocked that he was actually doing the show, and I was like, 'Oh, I hope this guy can dance a little bit and he has some rhythm,'" Burke told Extra.

Ultimately, Burke isn't interested in judging Lochte harshly as they begin rehearsals.

"I think 'Dancing with the Stars' is all about redemption... And I think everyone should give him that chance... I think he's really hit a low point in his life and he really wants to move on from it... Cha cha it off, ya know?" she observed.

Burke also admitted that doing Dancing With the Stars is the best option for Lochte in his career right now.

"I mean, he really, he has so much on his plate right now, and I think this is the best thing he can do, is just try not to think about everything and come and dance with me, you know?" she said. "I think people really should give him a second chance 'cause he is a great guy."

Lochte and Burke will have some stiff competition overall, including fellow Olympian Laurie Hernandez, model Amber Rose, actor Jake T. Austin, former NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson and race car driver James Hinchcliffe.

Dancing With the Stars season 23 premieres Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
