While divorce proceedings continue for Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy, the former Real Housewives of New York star said she is surprised how far apart the couple has drifted from one another.

Frankel and Hoppy are not scheduled to return to divorce court for a few more weeks, according to People. At the time of the split - the couple announced their separation in December of 2012 after nearly three years of marriage - Frankel released a statement saying, "We have love and respect for one another and will continue to amicably co-parent our daughter."

Bryn turns 3 in June and things have changed since Frankel's statement a few months ago. In a new interview with the magazine she said co-parenting with Hoppy might be a challenge concerning the place they are at now.

"I really did think it would be amicable. I absolutely did," she said. "I wrote that entire statement myself. And every single word, I believed to be true. Someone said to me recently, 'We see what we want to see.' And I guess, at the time, that's what I did."

Hoppy still wore his wedding ring even days after the couple announced their split. With divorce negotiations far from being over, Frankel said she is looking toward a positive future.

"The truth of the matter is, you go with your gut at the time," she said. "Whatever I'm going through now, I'm certain that I'll learn something from it. When the clouds pass, I will figure out what the silver lining was."

The couple filed legal documents based on the "irretrievable breakdown" of their marriage. They signed a pre-nuptial agreement in 2010 but custody of Bryn is still being negotiated. The family starred in Frankel's Bravo spin-off series' Bethenny Getting Married? and Bethenny Ever After.
