Pokemon GO has lost some of its luster over the months. While the augmented reality game's rise to prominence was no less than phenomenal, it has encountered some difficulty staying on top of the mobile game market.

Just a few months since its release, Pokemon GO was overtaken by Supercell's Clash Royale as the most profitable game on the market, despite the veteran's significantly smaller user base. Pokemon GO had a problem. It had no problem attracting new players, but it is finding it difficult to keep its users engaged in the game.

Pokemon GO Upcoming Updates

This particular problem could easily be addressed by Niantic when upcoming Pokemon GO updates roll out. Rumors have emerged stating that the developer is preparing huge updates for the game in the near future, such as the introduction of a trading system and a player-vs.-player battle system. Apart from this, a new, official Pokemon tracker for the game and the introduction of Generation 2 monsters are also speculated to be rolled out in the coming months.

These updates are rumored to be released by Niantic in a schedule that is far more expedited than before. Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke even assured fans that the firm is doing all it can to make sure the updates that fans want would soon be introduced.

"It's been a busy two months so we're now happy that we're kind of stabilized and able to start being a little more thoughtful about the next set of features that we want to build," he said.

Will Future Updates Make Pokemon GO Great Again?

With the upcoming updates in mind, Niantic would be able to make Pokemon GO into a game that Pokemon fans have always been looking forward to. When Pokemon GO was launched, hardcore Pokemon gamers lamented that the title is a far cry from what a Pokemon game must be. Little by little, however, the game is slowly taking form.

Once Pokemon GO becomes a robust game with features that dedicated Pokemon fans fully appreciate, Niantic's augmented reality title would most likely surge once more to the top of the mobile gaming market. But this time, it might very well stay there for a very long time.
