North Carolina law enforcement is accusing a couple of binding their 4-year-old daughter's wrists and ankles to a baby gate.

According to ABC News, Raleigh Police stated that Gerald Thomas Swinehart, 26, and Marlain Victoria Coffey, 28, are being accused of zip-tying the child with plastic restraints that are primarily used by electricians.

The authorities said that Swinehart also shoved or kicked the little girl so aggressively that her lower teeth broke through her bottom lip.

Arrest warrants covering the months of February and March, indicate that the abuse on the child happened earlier in the year.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the victim showed other signs of injuries that were consistent with physical abuse unrelated to the incident.

The child was taken out of the parents' custody by The Wake County Department of Social Services on March 31, stated police spokesperson Jim Sughrue.

Swinehart is being charged with two counts of intentional child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.  He is currently being held behind bars under a $100,000 bond.

Coffey is facing only one count of the respective charge, but is being detained under a $50,000 bond.

It still remains unknown as to whether or not the two suspects have attorneys.
