Their marriage reportedly ended because he was involved in a three-year long affair with their nanny, but Gavin Rossdale seems to have some major regrets when it comes to his divorce from Gwen Stefani.

The Bush frontman has maintained a relatively low profile and hasn't opened up much about the couple's split since it was announced in August 2015, but in a new interview with The Sun, he has revealed some of his regrets over his marriage not working out.

"[Divorce] was completely opposite to what I wanted. Really not..." He said. "But here we are. Apart from death, I think divorce is one of the hardest, most painful things to go through."

He also revealed that he still thinks fondly of Stefani, whom we was married to for 13 years and with for 20 overall.

"We had 20 years together and that in itself is pretty incredible. It's a lifetime, I still think she's incredible. It was a lovely 20 years and we have three amazing children. There were a lot of positives, and with time they'll become more and more obvious."

Rossdale also joked that his ex-wife's high profile romance with Blake Shelton, which the pair went public with in November 2015, has put pressure on him from the kids he shares with her-Kingston, Zuma and Apollo-to also be in a relationship of his own.

"They want me to get a girlfriend and examine me if a name pops up on a text," he said. "I think Kingston is going to be in the CID when he grows up."

As for why he thinks his sons are so eager to see him in a new relationship, he thinks it is because of what they get with their mother and Shelton, which is more of a familial experience.

"They obviously see a complete set-up with their other home, and it's really busy [with] all the family," he said. "When they come to me-unlucky, it's just me! I always feel a bit like" 'Sorry about that.' So we have a lot of play dates and the [other] parents come around and have big dinners."
