Next month, CBS network's police action crime drama thriller, Criminal Minds, is going to return on television and fans will then again witness the intense episodes from the series' twelfth season. It has been a few weeks since the show was last seen so the upcoming episode is undeniably highly anticipated.

Several hints and speculations are up on the Internet, updating fans of what they may expect on the upcoming episode of the series. But just recently, one of the cast members had revealed that this season is going to show some devastating events, especially on the finale part.

Actress AJ Cook, who portrays Special Agent Jennifer 'JJ' Jareau on the series, recently told TV Line that as far as she knows on the script, things are going to be turning downwards as the show slowly approach the season finale.

She mentioned that from all the drama that happened last year, before they got into the holiday break, writers and showrunners have reportedly come up with interesting story lines that could potentially change the lives of the characters.

"We've got some very personal stuff happening to some very loved characters, so there will be mayhem within the fandom. But don't worry, stick with us", the actress said in an interview.

It was even reported that the interesting but devastating plot lines could affect long-time characters, instead of the new ones. Fans have been speculating on whether it has to do with the rumors claiming that the show may lose Supervisory Special Agent Spencer Reid, portrayed by Matthew Gray Gubler, on the upcoming episodes of season 12.

However, according to a report from International Business Times, producers of the show have assured fans that the character is staying and not going anywhere. In the upcoming eleventh episode, it will feature Spencer Reid taking her mother out of the clinical study to take her home.

It was unclear yet if Reid is going to stay with her mother and take care of her. But the synopsis for the episode included the BAU to have a strange case that should be investigated. It is reportedly one of the scenarios that should be looked forward when the series returns.

Criminal Minds season 12 episode 11, "Surface Tension", airs on February 1, 2017 on CBS.
