South Korean police officials are saying that a man who jumped to his death also tragically killed a 5-year-old by landing on top of her while she walked with her parents outside an apartment building on Wednesday.

According to The Christian Science Monitor, the 39-year-old unidentified man reportedly died immediately after leaping from the 11th floor of the southeastern port city of Busan building.  The young girl passed away from broken bones and brain damage.

One of the officials who commented on Friday declined to give his name, as the case is still undergoing an investigation.  The official stated that the reason for the man's leap from the building is still unknown at this time.

However, witnesses to the horrific event saw the man jumping, but there was no suicide note left.

According to the website, South Korea possesses the highest suicide rate in the world today.

"South Korea is No. 1 in suicides per capita among the 34 nations in the 0ECD - and by a wide margin."

The voluntary death toll has continued to rise in an astounding matter, as a 2012 report put the country's suicide rate at 33.5 per 100,000 people, an increase from 28.4 in 2009.
