According to Wired, "The X-Files" season 11 will be returning to the small screen in 2018. Further, the network is reportedly aiming for more than 10 seasons as requested by the show's fans and followers. Entertainment Weekly reports that Fox is already very close in ordering more episodes for the upcoming "The X-Files" season 11.

It can be remembered that "The X-Files" season 10 only ran for six episodes which elicited some negative feedback from the fans. Ratings-wise, "The X-Files" season 10 presented good results, however, the short number of episodes disappointed most of the fans.

With this in mind, the network is reportedly taking into account the number of episodes for "The X-Files" season 11 to avoid getting the same repercussions from the previous season. However, while "The X-Files" season 11 is expected to be comprised of at least 10 episodes, it will not also be as long as the traditional "The X-Files" season with 22 episodes.

During the Television Critics Association press tour, Fox president, David Madden, reportedly told reporters that the showrunners of "The X-Files" season 11 are working its way around the busy schedules of lead stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Madden went on to say that Fox expects to have an announcement soon.

As for the possible plots of "The X-Files" season 11, the fans are expecting modern and timely cases with a mix of the traditional and classic cases solved by Dana Scully and Fox Mulder.
